7 week course

96 Halifax St, Adelaide

Give yourself the gift of learning to meditate and cultivating awareness, bringing inner calm to your daily living.  Even if you know how to meditate, this seven week course can renew and strengthen your practice.

Meditation is a means of transforming the mind. Buddhist meditation practices are techniques that encourage and develop concentration, clarity, emotional positivity and a calm seeing of the true nature of things.By engaging with a particular meditation practice you learn the patterns and habits of your mind, and the practice offers a means to cultivate new, more positive ways of being.

We teach two meditation practices originally taught by the historical Buddha, the Mindfulness of Breathing and Loving Kindness. Join us this Autumn and give yourself and others the gift of calmer, more positive states of being.

The Alchemy of Love: entering the realms of the brahma viharas

This is our new theme for Sangha Nights, commencing next Tuesday 21st February. The four brahma viharas, or sublime abodes, are metta, karuna, mudita and upeksa, that is, loving kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity. We are going to follow the threads of discussion and exploration that have been taking shape through the past weeks and encourage ourselves to go deeper with this revolutionary approach to meditation and living our lives. Alchemy – turning base metal into gold; this can be us, opening to the inner depths of our being, giving rise to beauty and kindness in the face of suffering and joy alike.

See you there on Tuesday evenings, 6.45pm at 96 Halifax St in the city; all welcome.

Please Note: a drop-in meditation class is available every week at the same place and time, 6.45pm, for those interested to learn about meditation or refresh their practice. There is no cost for these sessions, simply a contribution according to means, the Buddhist practice of dana or generosity.

Parinirvana Day

Parinirvana Day

Tuesday 14th February

6.45pm at 96 Halifax St

This is an annual festival in the Buddhist calendar, when we commemorate the historical Buddha’s death. We give thanks for the gift of the Three Jewels and reflect on our own journeying with the Dharma and spiritual death and rebirth.

We also reflect on the certainty of our own death and bring to mind other sentient beings who have shared with us the preciousness of this life and have died in the past twelve months. Bring a photo or symbol you can offer to the shrine in honour of those passed from this life.
