Sangha Day with Adelaide Triratna

20171025_101555Sangha Day Picnic and Puja

Sangha Day in all Buddhist traditions across the world is traditionally celebrated on the full moon in November, which this year is the first weekend in the new month starting next week.

Join Adelaide Triratna for a picnic in the Japanese Gardens on South Tce, from 12 noon onwards on Sunday 5th November. Bring your picnic, along with friends and family, neighbours and acquaintances for some relaxing time together, rejoicing in the Three Jewels and particularly our spiritual community.

At Sangha Night on Tuesday 7th November (starting 6.45pm at 96 Halifax St in the city) we will celebrate this annual Buddhist festival with a Sevenfold Puja, giving thanks for Shakyamuni Buddha and his Teachings, and the subsequent arising of the Arya Sangha, all the enlightened beings who have followed in his footsteps. The Teachings have been handed down from teacher to disciple for over 2,500 years and so Sangharakshita was able to become a monk and devote his life to sharing the Dharma and start a new Buddhist movement in England fifty years ago. This is now the Buddhist community we know as Triratna (Sanskrit for Three Jewels). Be a part of this evening in Adelaide and thereby join with our worldwide community in centres and sanghas around the globe celebrating Sangha Day, 2017.

Everyone is welcome at both events.

Tuesday 9th May
6.45pm at 96 Halifax Street

bodhi tree, bodh gaya

“Gautama sat down beneath the Bodhi Tree and did not get up again. The next day, so Buddhists say, a new person sat there – a realised sage who would be known henceforth by his title, Buddha: the Awakened.” (Vishvapani Gautama Buddha: The Life and Teachings of the Awakened One)

Join us at Adelaide Triratna next Tuesday evening in a puja to honour the Awakening of the Buddha traditionally celebrated on the full moon in May. One of the ways Gautama spoke about his experience that night was in terms of a way of seeing the world, that gave him an entirely new perspective on life, not just an exalted state of mind.

You are invited to come together with others to rejoice in this Awakening and give thanks for the teachings of the Buddha, showing us the way to our own realisation of how things really are and thus, how to live in peace and harmony in our present-day world.

Everyone welcome.

Parinirvana Day

Parinirvana Day

Tuesday 14th February

6.45pm at 96 Halifax St

This is an annual festival in the Buddhist calendar, when we commemorate the historical Buddha’s death. We give thanks for the gift of the Three Jewels and reflect on our own journeying with the Dharma and spiritual death and rebirth.

We also reflect on the certainty of our own death and bring to mind other sentient beings who have shared with us the preciousness of this life and have died in the past twelve months. Bring a photo or symbol you can offer to the shrine in honour of those passed from this life.
