Mindfully Alive is the theme of our Turning-of-the-Year Retreat, based on the Satipatthana Sutta, the direct path to realisation. This will be the foundation for mindfully exploring our experience over the seven days of this retreat, led by Maitripala from Victoria.

Maitripala visited Adelaide Triratna in February as part of her Buddhas-in-my-Pocket pilgrimage and she has kindly and generously organised her time and her life, so she can come back to South Australia and lead us in this wondrous text and practice.

What would life be like if we could more consistently “keep calmly knowing change?”

keep –      continuity and effort required to remain present
calmly –    becoming free from being driven by desires and aversions to experience
knowing – quality of intelligent awareness
change –  insight into the true nature of things

Join us on this retreat and strengthen your practice towards transforming your life. A solid foundation in the Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana meditation practices is a pre-requisite for booking on this retreat.

Please Note Date Change for Spring Retreat, now 14th – 18th September

The Great Turning: reconnecting with our deepest desire and choosing life

In these times we are living in, no one is immune to doubt, denial or disbelief about the severity of our world situation, and about our ability to change it, the global crises we are facing, no matter which direction we look in. Yet of all the dangers we face, from climate change and nuclear wars, to the mass displacement of people across the planet, none is so great as the deadening of our response.

This retreat will introduce us to the work that reconnects, championed for over sixty years by Joanna Macy, Buddhist practitioner, scholar of general systems theory and deep ecology, environmental activist and author. To quote Joanna “The Buddha Dharma prompts me to think of the work that reconnects as Bodhisattva training. The Bodhisattva is the embodiment of compassion, who acts simply and boldly for the sake of all beings, and who lets herself be vitalised – indeed liberated – by her interconnections with them.”

As winter turns to spring, join us on this retreat  and be inspired and encouraged by the blend of wisdom in the work that reconnects.

Start Time: 6pm Thur 14th September
Finish Time: 3pm Mon 18th September
Location:        Glenbarr, Strathalbyn
Contribution:  $200 plus dana

We are what we think.
All that we are arises with our thoughts.
With our thoughts we make the world.

These words of the Buddha Shakyamuni express the heart of his experience of Awakening when he came to see the truth of how things really are.

Join us this Easter time in the beautiful setting of the Adelaide Hills to explore the heart of the Buddha’s teachings, communicated to us through the Dhammapada, the Way of Truth. Through talks, meditation, reflection, discussion and periods of silence, learn more about how we ‘make our world’ and how we too, like the Buddha, can cultivate mental and emotional states that colour our world differently, living in harmony with reality.

Two Day Retreats with Maitripala
Saturday and Sunday
11th and 12th February
10am – 3pm

96 Halifax St, Adelaide

It is easy to feel overwhelmed by what is happening all around the world on any parameter you dare to think of – politics, environment, economics, gender, race, class and so it goes on and on. How can we best live a Dharma life in the midst of so much turmoil, conflict and suffering?

Join us for this weekend of exploring the teachings, to find out more about yourself and your relationship to unsatisfactoriness and compassion. Metta is a necessary first ingredient for effectively connecting with compassion. Maitripala will lead us through experiential learning that has enabled her to undertake the Buddhas-in-my-Pocket pilgrimage this past year and will enable us to go deeper in ourselves and with others.

The content of these two day retreat/workshops flows on one from the other, but each day can also be meaningfully participated in, without attending the other day.

Dana contribution for each day is $50, or $80 for both days.

Booking essential, via email
or phone Dharmamodini 0439 839 785

Adelaide Triratna is entering into the Fringe next year ( 17th Feb – 19th Mar) with promotional Drop-In meditations, watch this space for further information.

Reflecting on this time of year and being mindful of choices and decisions we are making about the weeks ahead, here are some inspiring words from the Dalai Lama:
“Let us reflect on what is truly of value in life, what gives meaning to our lives, and set our priorities on the basis of that.”
Go well everyone and hope to see you sometime soon.
