Tuesday 9th May
6.45pm at 96 Halifax Street

bodhi tree, bodh gaya

“Gautama sat down beneath the Bodhi Tree and did not get up again. The next day, so Buddhists say, a new person sat there – a realised sage who would be known henceforth by his title, Buddha: the Awakened.” (Vishvapani Gautama Buddha: The Life and Teachings of the Awakened One)

Join us at Adelaide Triratna next Tuesday evening in a puja to honour the Awakening of the Buddha traditionally celebrated on the full moon in May. One of the ways Gautama spoke about his experience that night was in terms of a way of seeing the world, that gave him an entirely new perspective on life, not just an exalted state of mind.

You are invited to come together with others to rejoice in this Awakening and give thanks for the teachings of the Buddha, showing us the way to our own realisation of how things really are and thus, how to live in peace and harmony in our present-day world.

Everyone welcome.

Full Moon Puja

Full Moon Puja
Full Moon Puja
Tuesday 13th September
and a celebration of three years
of weekly Sangha Nights in Adelaide

The full moon is traditionally an auspicious time for Buddhists to gather together and mutually honour our highest ideals and aspirations. The month of September marks the three year anniversary of when we started weekly Sangha Nights at Halifax St in Adelaide. Everyone is warmly invited to be a part of this celebration and giving thanks for the Buddha Shakyamuni and his teachings. If you have favourite Dharma texts you would like to share as part of the puja, please bring them along.

We will start at 6.45pm with a period of meditation,(both sessions will be happening, with and without instruction), followed by a short tea break before the Sevenfold Puja, lead for us on this occasion by Ratnadaka.

“Imagine a world without colour, beauty, poetry, myth, celebration, or ritual.  Such a world would be a very dull, drab, dead world indeed. Such experiences are essential to human life; they cultivate our emotions, refine our senses, and enrich our imaginations.” (quoted from the Introduction to our Puja book, written by Dhammadinna)

Inspired by last week’s True Individual retreat, next Tuesday 16th we will celebrate the full moon with a ‘compilation’ puja full of colour and poetry, so come along and join us for this joyous occasion, starting promptly at 6.45pm.
Please note we will start with the puja, to be followed by a period of meditation, with delicious vegan refreshments as our closure to the evening.

There will be no Drop-In meditation on this night.

Sunday 22nd May, 3pm at 96 Halifax St
You are invited to a gathering of the sangha to be a part of ‘launching’ our process to become incorporated. This gathering is simply to share information about what is involved in the process and provides an opportunity for people to ask questions about it. Becoming incorporated creates a legal entity out of what has been an informal gathering of people. This separates the individual from that entity and thereby provides certain rights and protection for the individuals involved, the activities undertaken and the group of people.

This is a significant step for Adelaide Triratna. We hope to share it with as many of the sangha as possible, as we move forward individually and together, in our collective efforts to practise Dharma and keep exploring the Three Jewels, within the context of our international Triratna Buddhist community.

There will be delicious vegan afternoon tea following the discussion and a finish time of 4.30pm. Please RSVP to Dharmamodini (via reply email or 0439 839 785).

Tuesday 24th May, 6.45pm at 96 Halifax St
The full moon in May (this year on Sun 22nd) is the traditional time for celebrating the Buddha’s Enlightenment. All over the world Buddhists are bringing to mind Gautama Buddha, the life and teachings of the Awakened One. We here in Adelaide Triratna will rejoice in Shakyamuni’s achievement in the traditional manner of sharing in meditation and puja.

We will start the evening with the Sevenfold Puja, followed by a period of meditation, so please arrive on time to join in the activities on this very auspicious occasion. After the meditation, we will gradually move from the silence into sharing supper and friendship, mindful of our good fortune in sharing the Three Jewels. Let’s make this a Sangha Night to remember and mark the date in your diary now!

This will be our Sangha Night tomorrow Tuesday, 22nd March, as we rejoice in the Buddha and give thanks for his teachings under the full moon and within that, rejoice in our friend Ing becoming a mitra in the Triratna community. Ing’s close friend Nagasuri is travelling from Sydney sangha to conduct Ing’s mitra ceremony and everyone is warmly invited to come along and be a part of the celebrations.

The order of the evening is slightly different to usual, still starting promptly at 6.45pm with meditation, but then (after a five minute break) flowing straight into the puja and ceremony. There will be a delicious supper after that to round off the evening in celebratory fashion.
